How we choose similar discs

Same disc category, speed within one point, and turn and fade each within one point. We rank those candidates by the smallest differences: turn and fade count most (3 each), then speed (2), then glide (0.5). Ties use disc slug order. We show up to three and never include your starting disc.

These are manufacturer ratings, not a shared test across brands. Plastic, weight, wear, rim feel and your throw can change which disc works for you. We do not combine turn and fade into a single stability number. The tool cannot match an exact worn disc or guarantee the same flight.

WHAT CHANGES YOUR CHOICE

Look beyond the four numbers.

  • All selected references list speed 5. Compare the intended line, version and grip rather than expecting identical flights.
  • Hex lists the most negative turn (-1); Mako3 lists 0. Use that as a starting point for a more turning line, not a prediction of your throw.
  • Mako3 lists the least fade (0); Hex lists the most (1). Decide whether less or more finishing movement helps your shot.
Hex vs Mako3: our choice

Start with Mako3 for a first low-fade midrange; choose Hex when a little finishing fade is useful.

Hex

The Axiom Hex is a speed-5 midrange for everyday fairway shots, with a little turn and a gentle finish. It makes sense as the disc you reach for when you want one familiar midrange line.

Choose something else if…

For a stronger fading finish, compare the Roc3. For less rated fade, compare the Mako3.

Mako3

The Innova Mako3 is a neutral, speed-5 midrange built around very little finishing fade. It is our starting pick for learning release angles with one main throwing disc.

Choose something else if…

Choose the Roc3 instead when a stronger finishing fade is the shot you are missing. Zero rated fade does not correct an off-line release.

How this comparison works

The tool reads the same manufacturer references as our disc guides. Numerical differences are explained directly; specific buying recommendations are editorial judgments. It does not simulate a flight, predict distance or score an “overall winner.”

Numbers are not standardized measurements across brands. Plastic, weight, condition and your throw can change the result. Check the rating scope and individual product before buying. Missing specifications stay marked as not recorded.

Your selections stay in the page address, so you can copy and share a comparison without an account. No bag or profile is saved on a server.
