What the Gray Jay flight numbers suggest
Speed 14 is a distance driver rating. Recreational players usually see the rated flight only with a fast, clean throw. Thrown slower, a disc this fast fades early and loses distance. Our catalog provider lists it as a distance driver; speed 14 is faster than the typical distance driver in our database (median speed 12).
Turn 0 and fade 5 describe an overstable flight: little movement to the right and a dependable hook at the end, which helps in wind and on shots that must end left. The 0 turn means it is rated to hold its line at full speed rather than drifting, and the fade of 5 means a strong finish, more so into a headwind. Those directions are for a right-handed backhand; a forehand or a left-handed backhand mirrors them.
Glide 4 is on the low side for a distance driver in our database. A low glide rating usually means a flight that drops sooner, which can make the disc easier to place on short shots. The rim is 2.3 cm wide (about 0.91 in), a typical width for a distance driver. A rim this wide usually calls for a firm power grip.
